Summary

In this sequel to the New York Times bestselling Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation--which #1 New York Times bestselling author Chris Grabenstein called "a real page-burner"--Charlie searches for Charles Darwin's hidden treasure in South America。

Charlie Thorne is a genius。
Charlie Thorne is a fugitive。
Charlie Thorne isn't even thirteen。

After saving the world, Charlie is ready to take it easy in the Galapagos Islands。 That is, until she's approached by the mysterious Esmeralda Castle, who has a code she knows only Charlie can decipher。

In 1835, Charles Darwin diverted his ship's journey so he could spend ten months in South America on a secret solo expedition。 When he returned, he carried a treasure that inspired both awe and terror in his crew。 Afterward, it vanished, never to be seen again。。。

But Darwin left a trail of clues behind for those brave and clever enough to search for it。

Enter Charlie Thorne。

In a daring adventure that takes her across South America, Charlie must crack Darwin's 200-year-old clues to track down his mysterious discovery--and stay ahead of the formidable lineup of enemies who are hot on her tail。

When an ancient hidden treasure is at stake, people will do anything to find it first。 Charlie may be a genius, but is she smart enough to know who she can trust?

Read this is help with a reading class project。 Main character is smarter and more complex than you often find in middle grade books。 Fun treasure hunt premise。 Touches on serious topics in an age appropriate way without over simplifying them。

Loved it。 So many intricate details woven together, and a hinting for what is coming in book 3。 A welcome sequel to the first。 My only thing is that I wish she were a bit older - 14 maybe - because a story as solid as this one is can be difficult to pitch with a 12 yo character。

This book is the sequel to Stuart Gibbs’ Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation, and it continues to divulge the adventures of the fascinating -if slightly disputatious- characters。 If you’ve read the first Charlie Throne book, you’re likely already dying to read this one, and if you haven’t, I highly recommend doing so。 Although this book had quite a bit of talk of evolution, which I personally did not appreciate, it was not written as a persuasive piece, and it was not hard to just think of it a This book is the sequel to Stuart Gibbs’ Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation, and it continues to divulge the adventures of the fascinating -if slightly disputatious- characters。 If you’ve read the first Charlie Throne book, you’re likely already dying to read this one, and if you haven’t, I highly recommend doing so。 Although this book had quite a bit of talk of evolution, which I personally did not appreciate, it was not written as a persuasive piece, and it was not hard to just think of it as a fictitious part of the book。 I’m giving this book a four star review because even though I didn’t agree with everything in the book, I did enjoy the different perspective and I found it to be an engaging and enjoyable adventure。We received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley。 。。。more

It was fine。 The book read really slowly and it took me a long time to sort of get into it。 I was a little disappointed because usually these books are fast paced and action packed but this book was mostly just clue solving in the jungle。 I hope that these books don't get too repetitive but I don't think they will。 Overall this book was good。 It was fine。 The book read really slowly and it took me a long time to sort of get into it。 I was a little disappointed because usually these books are fast paced and action packed but this book was mostly just clue solving in the jungle。 I hope that these books don't get too repetitive but I don't think they will。 Overall this book was good。 。。。more

Another page-turner from Gibbs。 The sequel to Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation finds Charlie hiding from the world in the Galapagos Islands。 When a mysterious message carved into a tortoise shell (allegedly carved by Charles Darwin) is discovered, the search for a long-missing treasure in the Amazon takes off。 Is there a treasure and will Charlie find it?

This book was an okay book。 I've read almost all of Stuart Gibbs books。 And i love most all of them。 There's only been a few that had parts i didn't like much, but other then that i loved the book。 This one on the other hand, I wasn't a huge fan of it。 There were parts i liked but most of it was a little dull。There were some really good parts but here are the two things i wasn't a big fan of。One: Okay, this whole book was about Charles Darwin。 Ugh。 This is like one of my least favorite guys in h This book was an okay book。 I've read almost all of Stuart Gibbs books。 And i love most all of them。 There's only been a few that had parts i didn't like much, but other then that i loved the book。 This one on the other hand, I wasn't a huge fan of it。 There were parts i liked but most of it was a little dull。There were some really good parts but here are the two things i wasn't a big fan of。One: Okay, this whole book was about Charles Darwin。 Ugh。 This is like one of my least favorite guys in history。 I do not believe in evolution。 And this whole book was about it which was a little annoying。 But again this is more of a biased view。 (Also i didn't like how Mr。 Gibbs made some jabs at Christianity, and people who don't believe in evolution。)Two: I'm not the hugest fan of Charlie in general。 The first book was pretty awesome。 But this one, she just seems so, just perfect。 Like she's good at everything, which is a little annoying。 I feel like possibly in the future books people might get tired of this character。I mean i know this seems like a lot of bad things。 But i really did enjoy this book, and I'm sad to give it three stars。 I hope the next one is better。 。。。more

Twelve year old genius Charlie Thorne races ahead of kidnappers and thieves through the Amazon jungle to find a secret treasure first discovered by Charles Darwin。 Fast paced and exciting, full of wondrous scenic descriptions and perilous James Bond-esque chases。 I couldn’t put it down。 I’ve not read the first one in this series so I picked it up from the book store today。 4。5 stars。

I was simultaneously disappointed and pleased with the reveal about Darwin's discovery。 I was disappointed, because I thought this was going to turn out like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull。 The prologue's ending sentence felt like it should have been the same reveal as Indiana Jones。 For most of the book, I kept thinking "Darwin's discovery is [this]! I feel like that will get repetitive after a while。 Verdict: It was pretty good, even though my excitement was mostly from me wondering if I was right and the discovery was like Ox's discovery in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull。 Also the more I think about it the more I realize that this is Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull! I mean there are differences, but you can get some serious déjà vu。 。。。more

Charlie Thorne had saved the world and planned to relax on the Galapagos Islands。 Esmeralda Castle tempts her with a code that will reveal the secret of the treasure Charles Darwin found two hundred years ago that terrified his crew。 She's not the only one after the treasure, and she has to get there first to protect it from those who would abuse it。This is a sequel to Charlie Thorne and the Lost Equation。 All you really need to know is that she's a brilliant teenage fugitive, excellent at codeb Charlie Thorne had saved the world and planned to relax on the Galapagos Islands。 Esmeralda Castle tempts her with a code that will reveal the secret of the treasure Charles Darwin found two hundred years ago that terrified his crew。 She's not the only one after the treasure, and she has to get there first to protect it from those who would abuse it。This is a sequel to Charlie Thorne and the Lost Equation。 All you really need to know is that she's a brilliant teenage fugitive, excellent at codebreaking and math。 I hadn't read that book first, and I didn't miss anything diving headfirst into this one。 She doesn't trust anyone, so she constantly is on the alert for danger and has contingency plans to escape。 That's not only a sign of a girl on the run, she's traumatized as well。 With the resiliency of childhood, she doesn't see it the same way that I do。 When she meets up with her half-brother Dante, she doesn't trust him, either。 That's just sad, because the average twelve-year-old should be hanging out with friends, watching music videos, and playing video games, not going on the run internationally。 Then again, if she was an ordinary twelve-year-old girl, we wouldn't have a book series。Charlie is one of those geniuses that knows everything, has a nearly photographic memory, and spends her free time reading and learning about random things。 This means she pulls out facts left and right as she's presented with new things, and her skill as a codebreaker is kind of what got her into the mess of this book。 She also can't help but want to know things, which is why she doesn't cut and run when it gets hard。 Esmeralda isn't who she said she was, Russians are after her, and the CIA would rather see her protected in their custody。 In the middle of this chase are thrilling scenes that would be fantastic in a thriller movie。 We have car/bicycle chases, speedboats, shooting from airplanes, massive explosions, and a lost city containing the secret that Darwin hid from the world。I really enjoyed this book and devoured it in a single day。 While there were times I thought Charlie was a big smug and irritating, she's also a twelve-year-old girl。 They naturally have their moments where they think they know everything。 In this case, Charlie really does。 But she's also outnumbered, outmanned, and has to think on her feet。 I really like that about her, and that she learns from the mistakes that she makes。 I look forward to seeing more of her adventures! 。。。more
